We are heartbroken to share that Officer Jonathan Platzner passed away suddenly while off duty, after suffering a massive heart attack during a workout. Jon was a police veteran who served the Richmond community with distinction, integrity, and valor. He was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served as an artilleryman in the Gulf War.
This Fund-A-Hero campaign, organized by the Richmond Police Officers Association, directly supports his wife, Mishell, and their three daughters. Jon’s career included prior service with the Suisun City Police Department and the Stockton Police Department before joining the Richmond Police Department in 2012. Your gift—of any amount—will be used right away for funeral and memorial expenses (services, burial/cremation, venue, flowers, printing, transportation), urgent household needs (mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, insurance, transportation), grief and trauma counseling for the family, and the administrative and legal expenses that follow a sudden loss.
The need is immediate—funeral providers require deposits now, and essential bills start arriving within days— so your support today brings dignity, stability, and time to grieve. To Mishell and the girls, every donation and every share is a reminder that they are not alone in our profession. From the Platzner family and all of us at RPOA, thank you for giving from the heart and for standing with them in their darkest hour.
